Will ICAI Relax Articleship for CA Final Sep 2025? Guide for Students in Articleship
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India recently detailed out the CA Final Jan 2026 and Sep 2025 eligibility criteria through a detailed notification on its website. However, as ICAI detailed out the eligibility criteria, candidates who registered for their articleship according to the CA Final Nov 2024 session are in a state of frenzy. There are many candidates whose articleship will end just a few days after August 31, 2025, but they will have to wait for 5 more months to give their CA Final exams as they are not eligible for the CA Final September 2025 exam.
Amid all this, students are not requesting ICAI to relax the eligibility requirements for such candidates who articleship ends before October 31, 2025 as they were aiming for the CA Final Nov 2025 exams earlier. What is the CA Final Sep 2025 and January 2026 Requirements for Articleship?
In the CA FInal eligibility notification, ICAI has clearly specified that candidates must have completed their 2.5 years articleship before August 31, 2025 to be eligible for CA Final September 2025 exams. Similarly, for the CA Final January 2026 exams, candidates must have completed their articleship before December 31, 2025.
Why are students requesting preponing of Jan 2026 exams for some candidates?
There are many candidates who were aiming to appear for the CA Final November 2025 exam and hence they planned their articleship keeping the Nov 2025 eligibility in mind. Such candidates needed to complete their articleship before October 31, 2025. ICAI’s update on CA Final exams being conducted thrice a year came just a week ago. Students whose articleship ends after August 31 but before October 31, 2025 will have to wait for five more months and appear for the CA Final January 2026 exams. This is the reason such candidates are requesting for relaxation in the CA Final Sep 2025 articleship eligibility requirements.

Candidates who have been caught in this situation are taking to social media to register their concerns. On social media X (formerly Twitter), one student shared, “It is truly unfair for the students who were registered for their training post Feb’23. The 2.5 years of my training complete on 5 Sep’25. A difference of 5 days delays my attempt for 5 months. There should be a common rule for all the students who were due for Nov25.”
Another student tweeted, “Sir it’s unfair with those whose who are completing their articleship in march and april 2025 as earlier we eligible for nov 25 and now we have our exams in jan 26 because of the eligibility criteria. My articleship end on 2/3/2026 and bcoz of 2 day my attempt is jan 26 now.” One more student wrote on X, “This is unfair, bringing upon a change retrospectively is unacceptable,I was eligible for Nov’25 attempt but since I joined Articleship after Feb now my attempt has been postponed, if I would have known this fact back then I would hv joined Articleship in Feb”. ICAI is yet to share any official update on this issue.
